Dog Skin Disease and Other Stuff

I found out what it means to have my tinsels cut off. Yikes! It hasn’t happened yet though because I have another puppy ailment that has delayed that operation. My humans noticed some small bare spots in my fur, and Mom asked the vet about them the last time she took me there for a day care drop...

Fences and Doggie Doors

Our people have wanted to get their backyard fenced in ever since Max came to live with them, but because they live in a nice neighborhood the fence had to meet the guidelines of the neighborhood association. And those kind of fences aren’t cheap.

Finally, after a lot of back and forth with the neighborhood people, we can now run and play in our own backyard! And, dog oh dog, we LOVE our backyard! We have a gigantic area where we can run and play. When Dad comes home from work, he doesn’t even go into the house anymore! He comes to the backyard to play with us first. We have room to play fetch and tug, and we even have a little swimming pool we can jump into and splash around in if we feel like it.

This past weekend, Dad installed a pet door, so now we can go in and out of the house when we want. We can go outside to play or poop or to investigate noises, then come right back inside where we have cool and comfy places to curl up and snooze. We learned how to use the door right away, and before the weekend was over, we were outside when we wanted to be, and inside when we wanted to be.

Our humans pretty much rock, and even though we have more freedom than before, we still love nothing more than curling up with our people at night and let them rub our heads or bellies.

Pet Friendly Hotels?

My and Guinness’s humans like to travel, and they’d like to take us with them. But finding pet friendly places to go is difficult and very often more expensive than putting us in a boarding place.

Lots of hotels say they are “pet friendly”, but when you call them they have a large non-refundable “cleaning fee”. For instance, the Sheraton Downtown Atlanta Hotel claims to be pet friendly, but a look at their website shows that it would cost $150 for Guinness and me to stay with our humans there with nothing to do. We can stay for 2 days at Atlanta Dog Trainers for $60 a day for both of us, AND have lots of room to run and play all day.

In addition, lots of hotels put weight limits on the size of the pets – often 20 pounds is the limit which would leave Guinness and me out! Double negative, look at the Sheraton Downtown Atlanta policy closely. They wouldn’t even let me stay there to begin with!

…the following breeds are not permitted at our Georgia pet friendly accommodations: Chow Chow, Old English Sheepdog, Rottweiler, Giant Schnauzer, Pit Bull, Staffordshire Terrier, Doberman, and Miniature Pinscher.

The reality is that it is less expensive for Guinness and me to stay at a boarding kennel than to travel with our humans, and we will have places to run and play (and even poop and pee!) without worrying about getting hurt or breaking stuff or messing something up.

Maybe there is a for really pet friendly hotel somewhere – maybe….

Tornadoes and Storms

Guinness and I have been spending our days in the fenced in backyard at the neighbors’ house. There used to be other dogs there to play with, but the neighbors moved away because some humans were mean and cruel to their kid. The neighbors are cool, though, and let Guinness and me stay in the backyard while our humans are at work.

They’ve been trying for a few months now to get our backyard fenced in, and they finally got permission from the neighborhood association to put in a fence. So sometime soon Max and I will be able to play in our own yard! We’re looking forward to that because our humans are going to put in a doggie door so we can go into part of the house to get out of the coming Georgia heat (and later the cold!) and so we can stay dry when it rains.

Barking of rain – there have been some really bad storms in other states lately, and a lot of humans have lost their homes. And a lot of pets have been lost, too. Here’s a story about a dog named Mason who got lost during a tornado recently in Alabama. It made my dad cry.
